One website for a salon group’s whole business

Electric’s online shop, salon booking, courses and trade applications, on a platform we built and ran.

The Electric professional product range: colour protection and intensive rescue kits, shampoos, conditioners and styling treatments

Electric is a hairdressing group founded by Mark Woolley, with salons in Brighton, London, Reading and Oxford, its own product range and an education programme for stylists. The Brighton team won UK’s Most Wanted Salon Team in 2008.

The products people ask about in the chair

A salon sells its products twice: once at the counter, and again when a client runs out at home. The shop put the range where the second sale could happen, organised the way clients ask for it — by brand rather than by category.

  • hair products by brand, alongside brushes and tools
  • gift vouchers, which salons are asked for constantly
  • accounts, a basket and a mailing list sign-up on every page

Booking that reaches the right salon

A group with salons in several cities has a booking problem a single form usually makes worse. The booking page asked first which salon the client wanted, then took the appointment in the client’s own words — the day, the time and the service — rather than forcing them through a rigid diary.

Every salon’s own telephone number sat beside the form for anyone who would rather call, and the booking connected the website to the salons instead of ending in an unread inbox.

Courses for the trade

Electric taught as well as cut, and the education pages had to sell to other hairdressers rather than to clients. Each course was set out with what it covered, who led it, how long it ran and what it cost, so a stylist could judge it without ringing up.

A door for professionals

The same website also had to face the trade. A stockist section explained what came with carrying the range and took applications from salons wanting to sell it, keeping professional enquiries apart from client orders while both ran on one platform.
