A secure new home for the online shop
We moved Breen Equestrian’s website and online shop onto our own secure hosting, without interrupting customers. The site now has its own protected space on a server we look after and keep an eye on around the clock.
We also tidied up behind the scenes, removing add-ons the site no longer needed, and put protection in place that stops common attacks before they ever reach the website.
Selling stallion semen, made simple
Breeders come to Breen Equestrian to order semen from its stallions, and the system behind it is the heart of the website. We rebuilt it so every stallion has a complete profile: lineage, height, year of birth, approvals, whether frozen or chilled semen is available, health status and a three-generation pedigree, all easy for the team to keep up to date.
Visitors can search the stallions by age, semen type and height, look through photos, competition results and pedigrees, and order in a few clicks. Repeat orders are matched to the right stallion automatically, so the team always knows which horse each order is for.
Closing the security gaps
The original system did its job, but our review found weaknesses that could have put the website and its customers at risk. As part of the rebuild we fixed every one:
- Protected stallion and results information from being tampered with
- Stopped harmful code from being slipped into pages
- Made sure only authorised staff can change stallion details
- Checked every search and order detail before it is used
- Fixed a fault that recorded the wrong ancestor in some pedigrees
We closed a similar weakness in the horses-for-sale search too.
Four times faster where it counts
Pages that are different for every visitor, such as the basket and checkout, used to take around a second to start loading. They now take about a quarter of a second, and the rest of the website appears almost instantly.
We also cut out more than a thousand unnecessary background tasks a day, and made stallion photos and search options load more efficiently, which makes a real difference on mobile.
