Diamond Broker

Background

N Deal and Sons are long established and well respected traders in diamonds and jewellery in Hatton Garden, London.

Hatton Garden has been the cradle of jewellery making and trading since the 17th century when fleeing immigrant artisans established their businesses in this area.

Brief

Deals wanted to provide an online system of broking certificated and non-certificated diamonds and other precious stones to give dealers, shopkeepers, manufacturers and wholesalers a centralized point of trading, free of commission.

The site had to offer flexibility to enable sellers to place the goods, edit their prices or remove items, quickly and easily.

Solution

Diamondbroker was developed using Active Server Pages (ASP) with a back-end Microsoft® SQL Server 2000 database.

Features include: -

  • WorldPay and FuturePay integration
  • WAP enabled

Result

Customers can leave their requirements at the site and when something within their specified range becomes available, the system automatically emails them, announcing its arrival. As a result the end user is not forced to continually check the site for updates.

The vendor can securely enter the goods, set the price and have their goods in the shop window for as long as they require.

If the item isn’t selling, they can quickly and easily edit the details, reduce or increase the price as necessary or remove it from the site completely. The WorldPay system takes a one-off payment for each item entered and sets up a recurring payment for as long as the item remains on the site.

The seller can leave the items on a site waiting list and when they choose to put the item on the market, they simply make the payment and the item appears for sale.
